Deleting your data

Last updated

Daily Unload keeps two copies of your journal: the one on your iPhone, and the synced copy on our server that puts it back on a new phone. Your audio only ever exists in the first one. Everything below removes both, and nothing here needs to go through us.

Export first, if you want to keep it

Deleting is irreversible. If you want your journal before you erase it, use Settings → Export journal inside the app and pick a format: a PDF, one plain-text file, or the full archive. Export is free — you do not need a subscription to take your journal with you.

Delete one vent

Open the vent and choose Delete. Its audio goes immediately, and the entry disappears from your journal. On the server the row is marked deleted at once and then purged outright, with the search vectors built from it, within 30 days.

Erase your whole journal

Settings → Delete all data removes every entry, on the phone and on the server, and leaves your account in place so you can start again from empty. It cannot be undone.

Delete your account

Settings → Account → Delete account deletes the account itself and every row attached to it — entries, search vectors, subscription record, session tokens. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke our Apple token as part of the deletion, so the app no longer holds any connection to your Apple Account.

Your subscription is a separate thing, held by Apple. Deleting your account does not cancel it — see below.

Delete the app

Deleting Daily Unload from your iPhone removes the app and the data stored on that device, including your recordings. It does not delete your account or the synced copy: sign in again on another phone and your journal is back. To remove that copy too, delete your account first, then the app.

Touch and hold the app icon, tap Remove App, then Delete App.

Remove backup copies

If iCloud Backup or a local device backup was enabled, a copy of the app’s on-device data may exist inside a backup made under your Apple Account. That copy is controlled by Apple, not by us.

  • Stop future backups of the app: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Backups → select your device → turn Daily Unload off.
  • Remove existing backups: in the same screen, delete the device’s backup.

Turn off the AI instead

If you want to stop sending anything to OpenAI without deleting your journal, turn the AI off in Settings. From then on vents are saved as plain transcripts and Ask is unavailable. What was already processed stays as it is — see the Privacy Policy.

Revoke microphone access

To stop Daily Unload recording without deleting anything, turn off its microphone permission in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Cancel your subscription

Deleting the app or your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it separately in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, or at Apple’s subscription management page. See the Subscription Terms for what happens to the remainder of a paid period.
